Progressive Era .....

              What was the Progressive Era ?

   Progressive Era was around the years of the 1800's and 1900's,There were people who were known as progressives,The progressives where people who wanted to get rid of america's problems.The progressives made the public notice problems like child labor, achohol abuse,food and women suffering,lynching and even more.There were americans out there who worked to fight trust in government.They wanted to bring down power of buisness,and to increase soceity.The governement was able to have a choice while other states grew power to pass laws.At the time women didnt have a right to vote.Most Americans moved to urban parts,to work in factories and other jobs,that was made by this economic problem.There were socail problems,people were becoming slums (poor people),disease was happening,and more.Progressives had  irresponsible actions by the rich,who were giving apart public and private life.The main goal of the progressive movement was to be free from guilt or evil of the government,As the progressives tryed to get rid of guilty or dis honest things,by showing or weakining the people who would support the buisnesses and bosses.Most of the government was being selfish.

         Women's sufferage
There was this 19th Ammendmant that people wern't realizing.There were women who wanted the right to vote,It took many years for Women to win this right.At the time some women had bad factory working conditions,and some where slaves.Woman at the time also wanted rights to have owning property when it came to marriage.Women were also fighting for there rights in other countries too.There were different types of  women groups that would fight for women's rights.Women after years won there rights.

   Cities during the Progressive Era

People were going poor,they didnt have anything to eat,drink,wear most of the time.People lived in urban places of the city.Hygeine was bad during this time.Disease started to even spread more.There was little water in these urban places and streets were recked.More population of poor people grew during this time.Most women had to think of a way to feed there children.Most of everything was falling apart.Not everyone was rich.Not everyone had money,Everything was becoming to much for people.Espically when it came to them fighting for better living and also working condition around these area's.

Even though things didn't go to great people still beleived in there rights and thought they deserve these rights.They beleived that all should actually be treated equal and not different.

     Progressive's

   Some progressive's were known as good people.And some were known as followers.The good progressives wanted problems to stop.The bad progressives created laws.The main thing of progressivisms was that they wanted to change every day things to advance.The other good thing progressive's did was they gave voter's a choice of new laws coming in.

     Prohibition
Prohibition was when they wern't allowed to make,sell,or give out anything that was alchohol.But yet they could still drink it.Many people thought this law had no point in it because it's basiclly telling you not to drink.The prohibitoin people who made this law made people follow this law.These prohibition people were very religous.They thought anything alchohol related led to voilence.But this prohibition era did not last long,people were happy that this law was taken care of and gone.

        Child labour

    Child labour was when they had kids working.Kids who would work in factories by the age of four.They had kids working in dangerous places like,glass making,machine making and more.Most of these children would work 12 hours a day.These exahausted kids would have to face the risk of deaths or injuries.Other children that were poor most likely sweep chimneys.Most children had there hands swollen from working so much.Can you beleive these children didn't even get breaks?The sad thing is children became prostitutes and even servants for people.Most people thought child labour shold stop because they basiclly thought it was slavery.After years child labour was known to be illegal and was stopped.

          Lynching

When it came to lynching it oftened involved African american's.Lynching was a very sad thing.Lynching was basiclly burning or hanging African American's.People who were African's or people who were to support african's most likley got lynched.Most african's were acussed of rapeing white women or stealing.Mob's of whites would be so happy to watch african's getting lynched.Most things were unfair to African american's during this time,because of racism.Law changed and lynching days were known to be over after years.

 Basiclly all the events you see on this page happen during the progressive era.It wasen't just one thing to worry about.People suffered,people fought,people wanted there rights to come true and they made it happen.This was the progressive Era.
